Letter to Seniors

Mrs. Payne and I are mailing this letter along with a calendar of events for the month of May. The envelopes are addressed to your parents. Be on the lookout! Keep the guidelines in mind when shopping.

March 22, 2012

Attention: Senior Class 2012

CLASS DAY
Class day is scheduled for May 17, at 9:30 a.m. Failure to adhere to the following dress code will prevent you from participating in the event. The program will continue as planned.

GIRLS:
1. The color of the dress should be white.
2. Choose a conservative style that is appropriate for the occasion. Do not choose a dress that leaves the shoulders exposed. The dress can be sleeveless, but spaghetti straps or one shoulder tops are not appropriate.
3. Remember to choose a style that compliments your body type. Avoid buying a dress that is too tight. You will be sitting on the stage, so opting for a longer hemline is a good idea. No hemline should be higher than three inches above the knee.
4. Wear white dress shoes or dress sandals—not flip flops.
BOYS:
1. Wear khaki dress pants with a white dress shirt and a “tasteful” tie. Jackets are not required. Everyone needs to match. Make sure your shirt is ironed and starched.
2. The shoes should be polished dress shoes—not tennis shoes, boots, brogans, or flip-flops.
3. Wear dark socks.
4. Make sure your hair is not too long. Remember to come to school clean-shaven

BACCALAUREATE AND GRADUATION
Baccalaureate is scheduled for Sunday, May 20 at First United Methodist Church in Troy. Be there thirty minutes early. The time will be announced at a later date.

GIRLS:
1. Wear your cap and gown with an appropriate church dress underneath. Your class day dress would be great. Don’t forget to use bobby-pins to secure your cap.
2. Wear white dress shoes.
BOYS:
1. Wear your cap and gown with a white dress shirt and tie underneath.
2. Wear dress shoes.

Graduation is May 22, at 8:00 p.m. at the stadium. If inclement weather occurs, graduation will be held in the gym. Follow the same dress code specified for Baccalaureate. All seniors will meet in the computer lab no later than 7:30 p.m. After graduation, you must go back to the lab to return your cap and gown, then you will receive your diploma.

Thanks,

Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Meadows

Mary Shelley "Transformation"

Hello Seniors,
Here is the link to Mary Shelley's short story "Transformation." Click here to read the text.
If you would rather listen to the story, google "Transformation audio." There is a free librivox recording on itunes if you would like to download the story. Why not listen to the classics over spring break? I cannot wait to discuss the ending of the story in class tomorrow!

Interview Reports

Don't forget that your interview reports are due tomorrow! Interview a grandparent or a senior citizen and find out what dating was like when they were teenagers. If you were absent last Thursday and Friday, you may turn your report in on Thursday, March 22. Remember to include sufficient context information. This report is about the interviewee's experiences, so save any first person commentary for the reflection at the end of your report. Reports should be at least 750 words long. Please type your report and use MLA formatting if you have access to a printer.
